Entrance of the Hill

We went here on a clear day to view Mt. Mayon. You can take a jeepney from Legaspi City or Albay that is going in the direction of Daraga 2nd loop and ask the driver to stop at Ligñon Hill. From the drop-off at the main road it is only 5 minutes walking to the parking place. There you pay the environmental fee of 10 peso per person and begin to climb the steep road up the hill. It took us 15 minutes including small breaks in the shade.

Before going up you need to pay Php10
The map showing the whole vicinity and attraction of Lignon Hill

The grounds of Lignon Hill was very beautiful and everything was nicely manicured. The hill is surrounded on all sides by magnificent views and vistas that one picture shot is not enough. While walking we saw different species of birds and lizards. The locals told us that best time to climb this hill is early in the morning where you will find a lot of joggers and late in the afternoon, where couples are enjoying the night view of the city.

Steep terrain, going up
The Kapit Tuko Trail, alternative way to reach the top of the hill

Aside from the many photo spots, the hill boasts of many things to do from hiking trails to the superman zipline, (unfortunately it seems that this attraction is not well maintain).  Of course, this is where you will also get one of the best views of the Mayon Volcano surrounded by all the other wonderful picturesque beauty of the bordering areas.

Mt. Mayon View at the top of the hill

Going down the hill we stop to refresh ourself by with buko juice (Php 25), there is also a restaurant near the jump-off which offers snacks and meals.

better than softdrinks and gatorade

Before going to our next destination, we ask the staff if we can go to to the Japanese Tunnel. You will pay another Php20 for the guide, I recommend that you skip this one because there is no special about the tunnel. Inside you will only see a mannequin wearing a fatigue uniform which is not historically correct.

disappointed 😦
